Tapping into the pain of losing a loved one came “quite easily” for Mika Amonsen while filming Boston Blue, the actor revealed in an interview with TV Insider.
During a Season 1 scene that referenced Sean Reagan’s late mother, Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson), Amonsen drew from a deeply personal place. His own grandmother had passed away shortly before filming began, and those emotions helped him connect with Sean’s grief.
He shared that, much like Linda loved St. Patrick’s Day, his grandmother adored Christmas. Remembering those moments made it easier for him to portray Sean’s sense of loss—especially in Episode 12, which aired on March 13. For additional insight into Linda’s story, Amonsen leaned on his co-star Donnie Wahlberg, as well as his longtime familiarity with Blue Bloods.
Episode 12 centered around St. Patrick’s Day, blending heartfelt memories with high-stakes drama. While Danny and Sean reminisced about Linda and her love for the holiday, danger loomed as the cartel responsible for her death resurfaced, planning an attack during Boston’s parade. Fortunately, Danny and Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) managed to stop the threat. Despite the emotional toll, the day ended on a hopeful note thanks to a kind gesture from the Silvers.
Amonsen recently stepped into the role of Sean Reagan, taking over from Andrew Terraciano, who had portrayed the character for years on Blue Bloods. Already a fan of the series, Amonsen found it easy to understand Linda’s impact on the story—and Episode 12 wasn’t the first time her memory played a role in the spinoff.
