Detective Danny Reagan isn’t letting distance ruin what he has with Maria Baez — even as his new life in Boston keeps pulling him away.
In the Nov. 21 episode of Boston Blue, Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez finally share plenty of screen time as the couple tries to make a long-distance relationship work. The story follows a violent home-invasion case, but it opens on a lighter moment — champagne in Danny’s barely furnished new apartment. Their reunion is quickly cut short when work calls him away, forcing yet another postponed date.
Baez understands the job better than anyone — she used to be his partner — and Danny promises to make it up with a romantic lunch. Later he admits to his Boston partner Lena Silver that Baez “gets” his chaotic schedule, and he even sends her flowers. Not long after, Baez surprises everyone by showing up at the precinct with coffee and helps on the case, proving their chemistry hasn’t faded.
During a rescheduled lunch, Danny explains he moved after his son Sean was injured in a fire. Baez admits she’s struggling with him living in another city but supports his decision. When she has to rush back to Brooklyn on a homicide lead, the reality of distance hits — yet they share a slow dance before she leaves, with Danny assuring her they’ll make it work.
Producers confirmed Baez will return multiple times this season, making their relationship a continuing storyline.
The series airs Fridays on CBS and streams the next day on Paramount+.
