“Blue Bloods” fans are getting a Reagan family reunion right away in the new spinoff, Boston Blue.
Bridget Moynahan will return as Erin Reagan for a special guest appearance in the series premiere, reuniting with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan as he begins a new chapter as a Boston PD detective. While the reason for Erin’s visit hasn’t been revealed, it’s safe to assume she’ll have strong opinions about her brother’s move to Massachusetts. Moynahan is also set to direct an episode later this season.
Boston Blue premieres Friday, October 17 at 10/9c on CBS, taking over Blue Bloods’ longtime time slot.
Wahlberg shared the news on Instagram with a photo of himself and Moynahan, writing, “Reunited and it feels so good! So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue! She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season. More fun (and surprises) to come.”
The series expands the Blue Bloods universe by following Danny as he relocates to Boston after his son Sean—now recast and played by Mika Amonsen—moves there to start his career as a Boston PD patrolman. The change gives father and son a chance to reconnect, while Danny is partnered with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a well-known law enforcement family.
The cast also includes Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Gloria Reuben, and Ernie Hudson. Boston Blue is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television, with Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serving as showrunners and executive producers alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg.
