Boston Blue has quickly emerged as one of fall 2025’s breakout hits, and CBS is clearly confident in its momentum. The network has officially renewed the Blue Bloods spinoff for a second season, announcing the decision on Wednesday, December 3. The renewal comes alongside fellow freshman Friday drama Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country.
The series stars Donnie Wahlberg, reprising his iconic role as Detective Danny Reagan. This time, Danny relocates to Boston with his son, Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), in search of a fresh start. As they settle into their new city, the Reagans become closely connected with one of Boston’s most prominent law-enforcement families, the Silvers. Danny is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, creating a dynamic that blends the familiar heart of Blue Bloods with a new setting and fresh perspectives.
Six episodes of Boston Blue have aired so far, and with the early renewal secured, fans can look forward to many more stories unfolding.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach praised the strong performance of the network’s new Friday lineup in a statement, saying:
“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming. These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives, and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”
