Fans of Blue Bloods finally saw the Reagan family return to television last fall with the spinoff Boston Blue on CBS. The new series follows Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, as he begins a new chapter of his life and career in Boston.
The premiere also brought a long-awaited update for fans: Danny is now officially in a relationship with his longtime partner Maria Baez, portrayed by Marisa Ramirez. Their relationship had been teased in the final moments of Blue Bloods, and the spinoff confirms that the two are now a couple, though they are struggling with a long-distance relationship as Danny relocates to Boston.
The series introduces a new law-enforcement family, the Silvers, who quickly become central to the story. Viewers also saw a special appearance from Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan-Boyle. Much like in the original show, the series features weekly family dinners — this time with the Silver family — keeping the tradition that fans loved in Blue Bloods.
The show premiered on October 17 and introduced a new actor playing Sean Reagan — Mika Amonsen — replacing Andrew Terraciano, who portrayed the character in the original series. Sean’s brother Jack, previously played by Tony Terraciano, did not appear in the first episode.
Boston Blue also stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson and Marcus Scribner.
The first season aired several episodes in late 2025 before taking a break during the holidays and the Winter Olympics. The series returned with new episodes on February 27, continuing its run in the classic Blue Bloods time slot — Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
What happens in Season 1?
The story begins with Danny moving to Boston after Sean is injured while working with the Boston Police Department. Hoping to reconnect with his son, Danny starts adjusting to a new city and a new professional environment.
He soon becomes close to the Silver family, led by District Attorney Mae Silver, whose complex family background blends Jewish traditions with Christian roots through their grandfather, Reverend Peters.
Meanwhile, Danny forms a strong partnership with Lena Silver, played by Martin-Green, as they tackle difficult cases together. Their growing bond adds emotional tension, especially as Danny’s relationship with Baez becomes harder to maintain from a distance.
Another major storyline centers on a potential legal scandal involving Mae Silver. New evidence threatens to overturn past convictions, including the case involving the man responsible for killing her husband, Ben Silver.
The midseason finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger when Mae’s son Jonah confronted the man believed to have killed his father — only for the suspect to later be found dead, with Jonah nearby.
What’s next?
The midseason premiere episode, titled “Hard Truths,” focuses on the fallout from that shocking moment. Jonah struggles with anger and grief, Mae and Sarah uncover painful secrets, and Danny and Lena take on a dangerous case that reveals hidden alliances.
- With Season 2 already confirmed, the future of Boston Blue looks promising as the Reagan legacy continues in a brand-new city.
