Mark Harmon is reportedly planning a Hollywood comeback following his recent return to the NCIS universe in a guest-starring role.
According to Radar Online, the veteran actor — who stepped away from NCIS four years ago — was drawn back in by his appearance as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS: Origins, a return that reportedly reignited his passion for acting.
“He had such a great time being back on set, and now he’s saying he wants to do more acting,” a source revealed. “It reminded him how much he truly misses being in front of the camera.”
Sources close to Harmon say his wife, actress Pam Dawber, is fully supportive — and even enthusiastic — about his renewed drive to work.
“Pam has been going a little crazy with him just sitting around at home,” one insider joked. “Mark tried to enjoy the downtime, but honestly, he was bored. He misses the routine, the crew, the fans — the entire energy of being on set.”
Another source added that Dawber would be “thrilled” if the NCIS team succeeds in convincing Harmon to return in a more regular capacity.
Still, Harmon isn’t limiting himself to the NCIS franchise. Insiders say he’s eager to stretch creatively and has begun considering projects outside the television world, with a particular interest in returning to film.
He was last seen on the big screen in Freakier Friday alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, and sources say he’s now open to more movie roles.
“He’s open to the right project — something that keeps him busy, challenged, and inspired,” an insider shared.
The source added, “He’ll turn 75 next year, but the truth is, he’s not ready to retire — and he probably never will be.”
