Michael Weatherly Returns to NCIS After Tony & Ziva Spinoff Cancellation
Tony DiNozzo is officially coming back to the NCIS universe.
Michael Weatherly is set to return to the flagship series for Season 24, where his beloved character Tony DiNozzo will play a major role in a season-long story arc, CBS has confirmed.
Weatherly originally starred on NCIS for 13 seasons as the charismatic and fan-favorite member of the Major Case Response Team before leaving the show in 2016. Nearly a decade later, he reunited with Cote de Pablo for the Paramount+ spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which continued the story of the iconic duo.
Although the spinoff was canceled in December, fans will not have to say goodbye to Tony DiNozzo just yet. His return to the main series marks another major moment for the NCIS franchise, which continues to expand with new stories and familiar faces.
Weatherly and de Pablo previously shared their appreciation for the opportunity to revisit their characters, thanking the cast, crew, writers, producers, and fans who supported Tony and Ziva’s journey.
The announcement of Weatherly’s return comes shortly after another major NCIS comeback was revealed, with Mark Harmon preparing to appear in an extended storyline for the prequel series NCIS: Origins.
Season 24 of NCIS will feature returning favorites including Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. The new season is set to premiere this fall on CBS.
With Tony DiNozzo back in action, NCIS fans can expect one of the franchise’s most anticipated returns yet.
