When Will ‘NCIS’ Return? Everything We Know About Season 23 & Its Schedule Change
The NCIS franchise continues to expand, but the flagship series isn’t slowing down. While some shows in the universe come and go, the original is officially coming back for Season 23—along with a notable schedule shift for the 2025–2026 TV season.
Originally a spinoff of JAG, the long-running procedural follows elite agents investigating crimes connected to the Navy and Marine Corps. Now, it’s set to remain a key part of the network’s primetime lineup.
Renewal Status
The series was renewed for Season 23 in February 2025 as part of a major slate of pickups from CBS. At the time, network entertainment president Amy Reisenbach emphasized the importance of both legacy hits and newer fan favorites in shaping the upcoming season.
Premiere Timing & Schedule Shift
An exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but Season 23 is expected to debut in fall 2025—most likely in late September or early October.
The biggest change: the show will move back to Tuesdays at 8/7c, returning to its earlier time slot after airing Mondays at 9/8c in recent seasons. The move will help create a full franchise lineup, with episodes leading directly into NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney for an all-NCIS night.
Cast
Casting details for Season 23 are still emerging, but the core team is expected to return, continuing the show’s mix of longtime characters and newer agents as the story evolves into another season.
