When Blue Bloods premiered in 2010, it introduced fans to the iconic Reagan family, led by Tom Selleck as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan. Alongside him were his children — Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Jamie (Will Estes), and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) — each playing key roles in law enforcement and the justice system.
Over the years, the show also featured fan-favorite supporting characters like Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray), and others who helped shape the series.
One of the earliest major exits came from Jennifer Esposito, who played Detective Jackie Curatola, Danny’s trusted partner during the first three seasons. Her character left the NYPD due to burnout, but behind the scenes, the situation was more complicated.
Esposito revealed she collapsed on set due to her celiac disease and had requested reduced working hours — something she claimed CBS did not accommodate. The network, however, stated they were unable to meet her request. The situation sparked controversy at the time, with Esposito publicly criticizing CBS over how her exit was handled.
Despite the abrupt departure, she later returned briefly in the final seasons, taking on a new role as a small-town police chief.
