Will Frank Reagan Appear on Boston Blue? Here’s What We Know
The Boston Blue series premiere didn’t just bring back Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan — fans were also treated to surprise cameos from Marisa Ramirez (Maria Baez) and Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan). One familiar face was missing, though: Tom Selleck as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan.
Still, the show made sure viewers didn’t forget him.
In the episode “Faith and Family,” Danny calls his father to update him after his son Sean is injured rescuing people from a fire. Later, Boston Police Superintendent Sarah Silver reveals she personally spoke with Frank, whose recommendation helped Danny assist Boston PD.
“Your dad’s voice counts for a lot, even this far from home,” she tells him.
Frank’s influence comes up again when Danny jokes he’s the “son of Frank, commissioner of all the land,” and Detective Lena Silver questions how often Frank overlooked Danny bending the rules — something Danny admits was complicated but rooted in doing what’s right.
So… will Frank actually appear?
There’s no official confirmation yet that Tom Selleck will join the spinoff. However, fans have reason to hope. The premiere clearly set up his presence in the story, and Selleck currently has no major projects announced aside from a rumored continuation of his Jesse Stone movies — meaning his schedule could allow a guest appearance.
The actor previously admitted he was frustrated Blue Bloods ended, saying the show consistently won Friday nights and was often taken for granted because of its long-running success.
Meanwhile, the Boston Blue cast is openly hoping for his return. Ernie Hudson said he’d “love to work with Tom,” and Wahlberg even pointed out that New York and Boston are “really close.”
For now, Frank Reagan remains off-screen — but the door is clearly wide open.
