Tom Selleck is officially returning to television crime storytelling for the first time since Blue Bloods ended in 2024.
The legendary actor, who played NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan throughout all 14 seasons of the CBS police drama (2010–2024), has stayed away from the screen since the show’s finale in December 2024. Now, he’s coming back with a brand-new project.
Selleck will host a new History Channel docuseries titled “Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck.” The 10-episode series will explore real crimes and major investigations from American history — ranging from Old West outlaws to modern high-tech manhunts.
According to reports, Selleck will also serve as an executive producer alongside David Carr (showrunner), Steve Ascher, Matt Pearl, Eli Lehrer, and Jim Pasquarella. The project is being produced by A+E Factual Studios.
The History Channel is also launching several other celebrity-hosted documentary series. Kevin Bacon will present “History’s Strange Fortunes,” a 10-part series about unbelievable true stories involving money — from bizarre spending to shocking heists. Ted Danson will host “Extraordinary Origins,” exploring the stories behind inventions and discoveries that shaped the modern world. Meanwhile, Dolph Lundgren will lead “History’s Greatest Machines,” examining the engineering and innovation behind some of history’s most influential machines.
Another upcoming documentary, “102 Minutes Inside the Towers,” will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and is executive produced by Robin Roberts.
Selleck’s new docuseries also arrives as fans continue speculating about whether he could return as Frank Reagan in the Boston Blue spinoff. The show has only a few episodes left in its first season but has already been renewed for a second, leaving the door open for a possible comeback.
