Tom Selleck Reveals the One Thing He Wishes BLUE BLOODS Had Explored
Tom Selleck recently opened up about what he wishes had been explored with his character, Frank Reagan, before BLUE BLOODS ended.
“Everybody says, ‘It’d be nice to see [Frank] have a relationship,’” Selleck told TV Insider. “If I had any regrets, it would be that he didn’t get to flirt often enough. But that didn’t fit the show’s format.”
Showrunner Kevin Wade echoed this, explaining that crafting a romantic storyline for the stoic police commissioner would have been tricky. “We tried it a couple of times with some success,” he said. “But it wasn’t an area we visited often. Frank didn’t have a romance with Det. Baker, though in another era, she might have been his Gal Friday.”
Fans now wonder if Frank might finally explore love in the spin-off BOSTON BLUE. Selleck was cautious but open-minded: “I don’t know if I would do BOSTON BLUE. That’s another show. I can’t predict the future, but I’d like to do a comedy someday.”
The spin-off team is hopeful for a cameo. Co-creator Brandon Margolis said, “We’re never closing the door on any of the Reagans or bringing pieces from the larger universe into Boston.” Donnie Wahlberg added, “Would I love for Tom to come to Boston? Absolutely. Or Danny to visit Frank? Definitely.”
While a romance—or even a cameo—may be unlikely, fans are still holding out hope that Frank Reagan could finally get the love story they’ve long imagined.
