After more than ten years away from Paradise, Massachusetts, Tom Selleck is officially eyeing a return to one of his most beloved roles. Fresh off wrapping up Blue Bloods, the actor confirmed he plans to step back into the shoes of Jesse Stone, the brooding small-town police chief who became a defining character in his later career.
“It wouldn’t be the final one, because everybody loves it,” Selleck told TV Insider — though his words carried a bittersweet tone.
The Role That Changed Everything
While many fans still associate him with Magnum, P.I., Jesse Stone gave Selleck a darker, more introspective second act. Across nine films released between 2005 and 2015, the series followed Stone’s battles with alcoholism, isolation, and moral fatigue — blending crime drama with a modern noir feel. Selleck even co-wrote several installments, deepening the character’s emotional weight.
Why the Long Wait?
After Lost in Paradise aired in 2015, a tenth film seemed inevitable. But Selleck’s long-running commitment to Blue Bloods made scheduling impossible. Now, with that chapter closed, Paradise is back on the table.
A Possible Final Chapter
Development is reportedly underway for Jesse Stone 10, tentatively titled The Last Watch. The story is expected to feature an older, more reflective — and perhaps more isolated — Jesse. Selleck is again likely to have a hand in writing, ensuring the character stays authentic.
Streaming platforms such as Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video are rumored to be interested, potentially positioning the film as a limited-event release.
Whether The Last Watch becomes a farewell or the start of something new, one thing is certain: Jesse Stone isn’t done just yet — and neither is Tom Selleck.
