Four episodes into NCIS: Sydney Season 3, and Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson still isn’t officially back on the team — and it’s starting to feel like the show is stalling with its best character.
Played by Mavournee Hazel, Blue has technically been out since the premiere, resigning via video message. Yet she’s hardly gone. In Episode 4, “The Truth Is Outback,” she’s once again quietly feeding intel to the AFP/NCIS task force while bomb tech Travis “Trigger” Riggs (Claude Jabbour) fills her role on paper. Unofficially, she’s still the brains behind the operation.
Meanwhile, the rest of Michelle Mackey’s squad is fully intact. Mackey (Olivia Swann), JD Dempsey (Todd Lasance), Dr. Roy “Rosie” Penrose (William McInnes), Evie Cooper (Tuuli Narkle), and DeShawn Jackson (Sean Sagar) are all back in action. Blue is the only one left in limbo — and the show still hasn’t clarified what her future holds.
The holdup? A bombshell from Episode 2. Blue’s real name is Faith Mullins, and she was revealed to be a convicted felon who falsified documents to enter law enforcement. Mackey ultimately forced her to formally reapply, insisting on total transparency. By Episode 4, Blue is still waiting for the results — yet somehow continues working behind the scenes.
At first, her covert assistance made sense. But now, with her lingering around headquarters and operating off the books, the situation feels increasingly implausible. The longer the series delays her official return, the more it risks undercutting the emotional weight of her storyline.
The big question: Is this just a temporary hurdle before Blue reclaims her badge, or is Season 3 quietly setting up her exit? While Hazel remains in the opening credits, her absence from promotional cast images has fueled speculation.
For now, Bluebird Gleeson is stuck in TV limbo — not gone, not reinstated — and fans are running out of patience.
