Chris O’Donnell has revealed he tried to keep NCIS: Los Angeles alive — but the idea never made it past CBS.
In an interview with TVLine, O’Donnell shared that he pushed for a follow-up TV movie after the series wrapped its 14-season run. The cast even discussed quickly pulling a project together during the writers’ strike, but ultimately the network decided the format wasn’t the right fit.
The actor admitted saying goodbye was tough, especially after building such a close bond with the cast over more than a decade. While NCIS: LA characters are still referenced across the franchise, O’Donnell is now turning the page.
Next up, he’ll lead 9-1-1: Nashville as fire captain Don Sharpe — a role he says is a major departure from G. Callen, with the new drama expected to premiere in September 2025.
