After wrapping up his long-running CBS drama Blue Bloods, legendary actor Tom Selleck is embracing a quieter pace of life — but he’s far from finished with Hollywood.
The beloved star, who turned 80 in January, has kept a relatively low profile since the series ended its impressive 14-season run in December 2024. While he has stepped back from the spotlight, Selleck has already started working behind the scenes on a new project.
A New Jesse Stone Project
According to IMDb, Selleck is currently developing a new entry in the popular Jesse Stone franchise. The project is listed as “Untitled Jesse Stone Project” and remains in development, with no official release timeline announced yet.
Authors Michael Brandman and Robert B. Parker — the creators behind the original Jesse Stone novels — are credited as writers, while Brandman and Selleck are attached as executive producers.
If completed, the project would become the tenth installment in the franchise. The first film, Jesse Stone: Stone Cold, premiered in 2005 on CBS, while the most recent installment, Lost in Paradise, aired on Hallmark in 2015.
Could the Format Change?
Interestingly, the project’s IMDb listing now describes it as a TV series, rather than a movie as originally expected. While it could still be a made-for-TV film, the change suggests the franchise may explore a new format for the first time.
Tom Selleck on Returning to the Role
Selleck has repeatedly expressed interest in returning to play Police Chief Jesse Stone in the fictional town of Paradise, Massachusetts.
In an interview with TV Insider, he said he would even consider writing a script himself to continue the story.
“Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to see where he is years later,” Selleck explained. “I need to regroup and figure out what’s next, but if the phone keeps ringing, I’ll keep working.”
Speaking with Parade, the actor also revealed he would love to return to the Western genre — even hinting that working with Taylor Sheridan would be exciting.
“I miss that world,” Selleck said. “I’d love to sit on a horse again.”
Could He Return in Boston Blue?
There may also be another opportunity for fans to see Selleck back on screen. Actor Donnie Wahlberg recently hinted that characters from Blue Bloods could appear in the upcoming spin-off Boston Blue, which will focus on Danny Reagan.
“New York and Boston are really close,” Wahlberg teased, suggesting crossovers could happen. He also emphasized how important the original show remains to both the cast and its loyal fanbase.
