When Will ‘NCIS’ Return? Season 23 Schedule Change, Premiere Window & What to Expect
The NCIS franchise keeps expanding, even as some series come and go. The original show, however, isn’t slowing down. CBS has confirmed the flagship drama will return for Season 23 as part of the 2025–2026 lineup — with a notable schedule shift.
Originally a spinoff of JAG, NCIS continues to follow elite agents investigating crimes tied to the Navy and Marine Corps. And while the network is reshuffling nights, the series itself remains a cornerstone of CBS programming.
Season 23 Renewal
CBS officially renewed NCIS in February 2025, alongside several other major shows. Network president Amy Reisenbach emphasized the mix of long-running hits and newer fan favorites, calling the lineup key to CBS’s continued success in both broadcast and streaming.
Premiere Timing & Schedule Change
An exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but Season 23 is expected to arrive in fall 2025 — likely late September or early October. The show will move back to Tuesdays at 8/7c, returning to a familiar time slot after airing Mondays at 9/8c since Season 19. It will lead into NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney, creating a full night dedicated to the franchise.
Cast
Details about the full Season 23 cast lineup are still emerging, with updates expected closer to the premiere.
