Donnie Wahlberg has confirmed that familiar faces from Blue Bloods will appear in the upcoming spinoff Boston Blue.
Speaking to Deadline at Cannes, he revealed that although no original cast members featured in the pilot episode, that is already set to change. Wahlberg also hinted that the expanded universe could eventually lead to even bigger projects, including his dream of a Blue Bloods/Boston Blue crossover film that brings the full cast together.
After Blue Bloods wrapped up in December following 14 successful seasons, Wahlberg said Boston Blue will continue the legacy of the original series. The spinoff will not only reintroduce familiar characters but also explore unanswered storylines from the long-running drama.
The new series follows Danny Reagan as he relocates to Boston and joins the Boston Police Department, where he partners with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. It also introduces the Silver family, a multi-generational law enforcement dynasty, while focusing on Danny’s personal journey, including his effort to rebuild his relationship with his son, Sean.
Wahlberg noted that the pilot episode is designed to establish the new setting and characters, with a strong emphasis on the developing partnership between Danny and Lena. Despite the change in location, he stressed that the core themes of Blue Bloods—faith, family, and tradition—remain at the heart of the story.
With planned crossover appearances and strong ties to the original series, fans are eagerly awaiting how Boston Blue will continue and expand the Blue Bloods universe.
