Sean Murray is shutting down rumors that he’s leaving NCIS. The actor, who has played Timothy McGee since season 1, responded to growing fan speculation that his character could be heading toward an exit in season 23.
Speaking to TVLine, Murray admitted that surprises can always happen on NCIS, reminding fans that no character is ever completely safe on the long-running series. He pointed to the shocking death of Caitlin Todd back in season 2 as proof that the show is known for unexpected twists.
Still, Murray stopped short of confirming any plans to leave. Instead, he teased that major surprises are coming later this season — and promised longtime fans will see storylines that are “different” and “unexpected.”
Rumors about McGee’s future started after fans noticed his growing frustrations at work and hints that he may want a different path outside of NCIS. But for now, Murray’s comments suggest viewers shouldn’t assume McGee is going anywhere just yet.
