Tom Selleck’s journey to fame didn’t happen overnight. Born January 29, 1945, in Detroit, he worked his way up from commercials and small TV roles to global stardom as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I., where his signature mustache, rugged charm, and Emmy-winning performance made him a television icon.
Before his breakthrough, Selleck attended USC on a basketball scholarship and later trained as an actor under Milton Katselas. He also served in the California National Guard during the Vietnam War era, taking on minor acting work until landing his career-defining role in 1980.
He went on to build a successful film career with projects like Three Men and a Baby, Quigley Down Under, and An Innocent Man, and later became a new generation’s TV favorite as Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, a role he held for more than a decade starting in 2010.
Away from Hollywood, Selleck has always prioritized family and privacy. He married Jillie Mack in 1987, and they share a daughter, Hannah. The family lives on a 63-acre California ranch, where he spends time farming and enjoying a quieter life.
Despite recurring online rumors about his health and death, Selleck remains active. Following the end of Blue Bloods in 2024, he has hinted at embracing a slower pace on his ranch while fans await his memoir, You Never Know, reflecting on a career that spans more than 60 years.
