After 14 seasons, fans were heartbroken when Blue Bloods wrapped in December 2024. While a full revival isn’t happening, there’s exciting news: the universe is expanding — and Donnie Wahlberg is officially on board.
Danny Reagan Heads to Boston
CBS has handed a straight-to-series order for a new expansion tentatively titled Boston Blue. Wahlberg will reprise his role as Danny Reagan — but this time, he’s trading New York for the Boston Police Department.
Danny’s new partner? Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a law enforcement family, adding a fresh dynamic while keeping the franchise’s family-first roots alive. The series is set to premiere during the 2025–2026 TV season.
A “Home”coming for Wahlberg
The move to Boston is fitting, as Wahlberg was born and raised in Dorchester. Behind the scenes, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (known for projects like The Blacklist) will serve as showrunners.
Interestingly, Boston Blue wasn’t originally conceived as a direct spinoff. The concept began as a separate cop-family drama before CBS reworked it into an extension of the Blue Bloods universe. (The network had previously passed on a Texas-based idea for Danny.)
With loyal fans still missing Sunday dinners at the Reagan table, the big question remains: will Danny Reagan’s next chapter draw viewers back in?
One thing’s certain — the legacy isn’t over yet.
