After 14 seasons, Blue Bloods ended in December 2024 — and while the original series isn’t coming back, the story isn’t over.
CBS has officially ordered a straight-to-series expansion set in the same universe, tentatively titled Boston Blue, with Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Danny Reagan.
Same Danny Reagan — Brand-New City
In the new series, Danny leaves New York behind and transfers to the Boston Police Department. There, he’ll be paired with a new partner, Detective Lena Peters — the eldest daughter of a law enforcement family, echoing the Reagan legacy in a fresh way.
The drama is set to premiere during CBS’ 2025–2026 television season.
A Homecoming for Wahlberg
Although it’s a new setting for Danny, it’s a personal homecoming for Wahlberg, who was born and raised in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood.
The series will be run by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (known for Alert: MPU, L.A.’s Finest, and The Blacklist). Interestingly, the concept wasn’t originally designed as a Blue Bloods spinoff. It began as a separate cop-family drama before CBS decided to integrate Danny Reagan into the story. An earlier idea involving Danny relocating to Texas was ultimately scrapped.
Now, the big question remains: will loyal Blue Bloods fans follow Danny to Boston?
With a beloved character at the center, Boston Blue may be the next chapter fans have been waiting for.
