Boston Blue Family Tree Explained: Meet the Reagans and the Silvers
Boston Blue continues the legacy of Blue Bloods, following Danny Reagan as he starts a new chapter in Boston — but this time, the weekly family dinners belong to an entirely new clan.
While Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and his son Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen) carry the Reagan name into the spinoff, the heart of the series now centers on the Silver family — a blended law enforcement household balancing faith, duty, and family drama.
The Silvers: A Blended Family of Faith and Service
Like the Reagans before them, the Silvers are deeply rooted in both law enforcement and faith. But their dynamic looks different.
Some family members are Baptist, others are Jewish, so their weekly tradition is Friday night Shabbat dinners. On Sundays — the night Blue Bloods fans associate with the Reagan table — the Silvers attend a Baptist church led by one of their own, keeping both sides of their spiritual identity alive.
At the center of the family are Mae and Ben Silver and their children:
Sarah Silver (played by Maggie Lawson), the eldest biological child of Ben Silver. Her biological mother remains a mystery — at least for now.
Jonah Silver (played by Marcus Scribner), a rookie cop with the Boston Police Department trying to prove himself.
Lena Silver, Sarah’s sister.
Jonah quickly forms a close bond with Sean after Danny relocates to Boston. In the series premiere, both young officers are injured in a devastating building fire, and Jonah helps save Sean — earning Danny’s lasting gratitude. Since then, the Reagans have become regular guests at the Silver family’s Friday Shabbat dinners.
Danny Reagan’s New Chapter
Danny Reagan has moved to Boston to be closer to Sean, who’s now a rookie cop himself. His late wife Linda died during Blue Bloods Season 8, and Danny has since found love again with his longtime partner, Detective Maria Baez.
Marisa Ramirez reprises her role as Maria Baez, making a surprise appearance in the Boston Blue premiere that confirmed her long-awaited romantic relationship with Danny. Baez still lives in New York City but visits Boston frequently.
She is also the adoptive mother of a daughter, Elena, whom she met during a Blue Bloods case.
The Reagan Family’s Presence
Though Boston Blue shifts focus to the Silvers, the Reagan legacy isn’t disappearing.
Bridget Moynahan reprises her role as Erin Reagan Boyle in the premiere. Erin is Danny’s younger sister and the former Assistant District Attorney of New York City. She shares a daughter, Nicky Reagan-Boyle, with her ex-husband Jack Boyle.
Danny’s brother Jamie Reagan (played in Blue Bloods by Will Estes) and nephew Joe Hill (portrayed by Will Hochman) have also been hinted as possible future appearances.
As for family patriarch Frank Reagan?
Tom Selleck recently told Hour Detroit that while he wants Blue Bloods remembered properly, he doesn’t necessarily see himself continuing to play Frank in the spinoff — making a cameo uncertain.
New Faces Joining the Drama
Season 1 continues expanding the Silver circle:
Xothicl Gomez debuts as Penny in Episode 6.
Sarah’s boyfriend Seth (played by Mike Vogel) and his daughter Phoebe Yates (played by Matia Jackett) return in Episode 8.
With blended faith traditions, rookie cops finding their footing, and Reagans slowly weaving into Boston life, Boston Blue is building a new family table — while honoring the one that came before.
And as Season 1 unfolds, expect more crossovers, more drama, and possibly even more Reagans stepping into the spotlight.
