Eric Christian Olsen Returns to NCIS in Shocking New Role

Eric Christian Olsen Returns to the NCIS Universe Behind the Scenes

Eric Christian Olsen is officially back in the NCIS universe, but fans should not expect to see Marty Deeks return on screen—at least for now.

The former NCIS: Los Angeles star has joined CBS’ NCIS: Origins as an executive producer for the upcoming third season. The move marks a new phase in Olsen’s career after 14 seasons portraying LAPD liaison Marty Deeks, one of the most popular characters in the franchise.

Since NCIS: Los Angeles ended in 2023, Olsen has focused more on producing. He previously served as an executive producer on CBS’ legal drama Matlock, working behind the scenes to develop storylines rather than acting in front of the camera.

Now, with NCIS: Origins heading into its third season, Olsen is bringing his franchise experience back into the NCIS world in a creative role.

The prequel series follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell, during his early years at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s. Mark Harmon narrates the series and is expected to take on a larger on-screen presence in the upcoming season.

Although Olsen’s current involvement is strictly behind the camera, fans are already speculating whether his return could eventually open the door for a Marty Deeks appearance somewhere in the expanding NCIS franchise.

NCIS: Origins is set to return this fall on CBS.
