Emily Wickersham’s return was teased in the fall finale of NCIS Season 23, setting the stage for her long-awaited comeback. That return finally arrived in the midseason premiere, “Her,” where fans learned that Bishop had been working deep undercover.
During the episode, it’s revealed that Bishop’s team was involved in a hack that exposed classified information, turning her into a target of NCIS Elite. With the pressure mounting and her reputation on the line, Bishop turns to Torres for help proving her innocence. Soon, much of the NCIS team — including Knight, McGee, Kasie, and Jimmy — joins the effort to clear her name.
However, one major member of the team is noticeably absent: Special Agent Alden Parker.
Despite the high-stakes situation, Parker never appears in the episode. Even more puzzling, the show offers no explanation for his absence. Gary Cole, who plays Parker, is completely missing from the installment, and none of the characters mention where he might be.
Considering the circumstances, many viewers expected at least a brief explanation — perhaps a line noting that Parker was taking time off following his father’s death or that the team hadn’t been able to reach him. Instead, the episode simply moves forward without acknowledging his absence at all.
The most likely explanation lies behind the scenes. As television production continues to evolve, it has become increasingly common for long-running series to rotate regular cast members in and out of episodes as a cost-saving measure. If that’s the case here, it would explain why Cole sat out the episode — though it doesn’t make the absence any less noticeable for fans.
Still, Parker’s absence won’t last long. The promo for the next episode, “Army of One,” confirms that he will return in the March 10 installment. In the preview, Parker receives a call from Knight, who appears to be framed for a crime and desperately needs his help.
While Parker may have missed the chance to help clear Bishop’s name, it looks like he’ll be stepping back into action in a big way as he works to help Knight out of trouble.
