Vanessa Ray on Eddie’s Loyalty and the Heart of “Jamko” in Blue Bloods
Earlier this fall, Vanessa Ray hinted that we’d see just how committed Eddie is to the people in her life—and the latest episode delivered. When a report is filed against her partner Badillo (Ian Quinlan) for smoking weed, Eddie and her husband Jamie (Will Estes) track him down, hoping to steer him toward rehab and protect him from being drug tested and fired. Badillo refuses to go, but Jamie steps up, claiming he filed a false report—saving Badillo and earning a citation for himself.
Eddie’s Loyalty:
Ray explains, “Eddie doesn’t think Badillo needed rehab, but she wanted to protect him—clear his name and keep him safe. She sees him as a brother, not just a partner.” The bond between Eddie and Badillo is unique—there’s no romance, just deep trust and loyalty.
What Makes the Partnership Work:
Much of it comes down to Ian Quinlan’s energy. “He’s giving, kind, and cool on camera,” Ray says. “He pushes Eddie in just the right way, and she gets a taste of her own medicine. That dynamic is what makes it work so well.”
Jamie’s Surprise Move:
Eddie didn’t expect Jamie to claim he filed a false report, and Ray admits it was a shock. “It’s always a surprise when Jamie does something out of character. You’re just like, ‘Wait, what’s happening?’”
Looking Ahead:
With the series nearing its end, Ray is soaking in the relationships and emotions. “Eddie and Jamie are soulmates in their own way—opposites from different worlds, but forever a team. Fans aren’t ready for what’s coming in the last episodes. Everything is happening at once.”
The Eddie-Badillo Connection:
Some of Ray’s favorite scenes involve Badillo, praising the chemistry and the challenge of working together. “It was one of my top five favorite scenes ever, figuring out the right way to shoot it and get it into the edit. It was just fun.”
Family and Legacy:
Eddie’s scenes with family, including Frank (Tom Selleck), remain highlights. “I love the moments with the family, and the last episodes really honor that. It’s been an incredible experience playing her, and I hope fans will be moved by how beautifully the series ends.”
