The legacy of Blue Bloods will continue in the upcoming spinoff Boston Blue.
The long-running police drama, starring Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, ended in December 2024 after 14 seasons. Now, Donnie Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as Danny Reagan in the new series.
Interestingly, Boston Blue was not originally planned as a Blue Bloods spinoff. Reports from Deadline say the concept initially followed an LAPD officer relocating to Boston, but it was reworked once CBS realized Wahlberg’s strong connection to the city and his iconic role.
At a 2025 press event, Wahlberg reassured fans that the transition would honor the original series, saying no one would be disappointed.
“Danny’s story continues the Reagan family’s,” he explained. “We’ll keep that connection alive while also introducing a new family and new stories.”
With familiar ties and fresh beginnings, Boston Blue aims to carry the Reagan legacy forward while opening a new chapter.
