NCIS Season 24 Update: Will Kayla Vance Return?
The NCIS Season 23 finale delivered a major surprise when Kayla Vance made her long-awaited return, and it looks like fans haven’t seen the last of her.
Kayla, portrayed by Naomi Grace, reappeared for the first time since Season 21 during the dramatic finale. The episode followed the NCIS team’s investigation into a bombing tied to a year-old café explosion. Flashbacks revealed that Kayla had secretly dedicated herself to identifying those responsible, eventually forming her own private network to track down extremist groups after initially facing resistance from her father, NCIS Director Leon Vance.
Her efforts ultimately helped the team solve the case and clear Leon Vance’s name, making her return one of the episode’s biggest highlights.
Speaking about Kayla’s future, NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder confirmed that the character is expected to return in Season 24.
“I think we’ll definitely see or hear from Kayla again next season. She’s going to be part of the story in some way, although exactly what that looks like is still being figured out.”
One of the biggest questions is whether Kayla will officially join NCIS or continue working independently. Throughout the finale, she showed a talent for operating outside the traditional system by building a network that monitors online extremist activity before attacks can happen.
Binder suggested Kayla faces a difficult choice. She could honor her father’s legacy by following in his footsteps at NCIS, or she may decide that working in the same agency connected to so much personal loss is simply too painful.
For now, her future remains undecided, but both paths offer exciting storytelling possibilities. Whether she becomes an NCIS agent or continues leading her independent operation, Kayla’s story is far from over.
With Season 24 on the horizon, fans are already looking forward to seeing how her journey continues.
