Michael Weatherly is stepping back into Tony DiNozzo’s shoes — and he made sure the fan-favorite agent returned looking better than ever.
Speaking at a fan screening for the new spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the actor revealed he went on a diet to make his character “a little bit more foxy” for the Paramount+ series. Weatherly, who first played Tony when NCIS launched in 2003, said he wanted the comeback to feel fresh while staying true to the character fans love.
He also shared a simple fitness rule he swears by: keep moving. “If you can walk, walk,” he explained, adding that squeezing activity into everyday routines makes a big difference — though it’s harder now with kids and family responsibilities.
Weatherly, a father of three, says spending time with his children has become his top priority since leaving NCIS in 2016, calling them “the best thing in my life” and saying he’s incredibly proud of them.
The new series reunites him with former co-star Cote de Pablo as Ziva David, and Weatherly promises longtime viewers plenty to look forward to. Rather than relying on big cameo appearances, the show leans into nostalgia with subtle callbacks, hidden references, and familiar moments designed for loyal fans to spot.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva is now streaming on Paramount+, with new episodes released every Thursday.
