Sonequa Martin-Green Hopes Tom Selleck Joins Boston Blue — Could a Cameo Happen in Season 2?
Sonequa Martin-Green has revealed that the Boston Blue team has officially reached out to Tom Selleck, expressing hope that the legendary Blue Bloods star might one day appear on the spinoff series. While nothing has been confirmed, fans are already speculating whether a cameo could happen in Season 2.
A Growing Blue Bloods Universe
Boston Blue Season 1 already featured several familiar faces from Blue Bloods, including Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Marisa Ramirez (Detective Maria Baez), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), and Will Hochman (Joe Hill).
Hochman also appeared in the Season 1 finale, helping Martin-Green’s character Lena during an emotional storyline involving family discoveries that mirror Joe Hill’s own journey in Blue Bloods.
The series also continued referencing key characters like Frank Reagan throughout its first season, keeping strong ties to its predecessor.
Season 2 Brings More Familiar Faces
Looking ahead, Marisa Ramirez is confirmed to return as Detective Baez in Boston Blue Season 2, which is set to premiere this fall on CBS. Producers have also stated that the door remains open for more Blue Bloods stars to appear in the expanding universe.
Martin-Green emphasized that the creative team welcomes returning cast members, noting that Boston Blue is building on the foundation laid by its predecessor.
Tom Selleck at the Center of Attention
Naturally, much of the excitement has focused on Tom Selleck, who portrayed Frank Reagan for 14 seasons on Blue Bloods. According to Martin-Green, his name frequently comes up in discussions about potential guest appearances.
Speaking to Woman’s World, she said the team would love to include him if the right storyline is developed, adding that any return would need to feel meaningful and story-driven.
In another interview with TV Insider, Martin-Green described the Boston Blue series as being “built on the shoulders” of Blue Bloods, explaining that bringing back original cast members adds depth, continuity, and authenticity to the expanding franchise.
Selleck’s Uncertain Return
Despite ongoing fan interest, Tom Selleck has previously expressed uncertainty about reprising his role. While he acknowledged the importance of Blue Bloods in television history, he suggested that he may not continue playing Frank Reagan in future projects.
He also voiced disappointment over the cancellation of Blue Bloods, which ended after 14 successful seasons on CBS, describing it as a major setback for a series that remained highly popular.
Will It Happen?
For now, a Tom Selleck appearance in Boston Blue remains unconfirmed. However, with producers open to bringing back familiar faces and cast members actively expressing interest, fans continue to hope that Frank Reagan could one day return — even briefly — to the expanding universe.
Whether it happens in Season 2 or beyond, the possibility alone has already generated strong excitement among viewers of both series.
